Blood drives set for Gentry and Decatur

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold a blood drive from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 31, at the Gentry branch of the Arvest Bank, 320 E. Main Street, Gentry; and from 2 to 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 31, at the Decatur Medi Clinic, 346 N. Main Street, Decatur.

Huls completes Navy basic

Navy Seaman Recruit Chester C. Huls, son of Relda A. Cunningham of Siloam Springs, Ark. and Chester D. Huls of Colcord, Okla., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Hunter education offered

A hunter education course - required of all hunters born after Dec. 31, 1968 - will be offered at the Hobbs State Park Conservation Area Visitor's Center on Saturday, Aug. 29. The course begins at 8 a.m. and will last until 8 p.m. (Children under the age of 16 may hunt without the course as long as they are under the direct supervision of a licensed adult, age 21 or older.) Steve Dunlap, Education Coordinator for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will present the class.

John Brown University Assistant Physics Professor Dr. Daniel Main has been awarded a National Science Foundation grant for his upcoming study of the structure of the northern and southern lights - aurora borealis and aurora australis.

Twelve members of a large Northwest Arkansas methamphetamine ring broken up last year received prison sentences ranging from 12 years, seven months to three years, five months.

Gentry man arrested for stealing two rifles

Police arrested Jason James, 35, of Siloam Springs, August 12, on charges of breaking into his father's home office and stealing guns.
