Cheerleaders win first competition

— Gentry High School Cheerleaders opened up their competition season with a win Saturday at Bentonville High School.

“They got off to a great start this year by placing first in the 4A division and also won the overall award for all-girl squads, even beating out 7A school Rogers,” said cheerleading coach Joni Wilson.

The next competition is planned for Nov. 7 at Siloam Springs.

Stone-Burkhalter marry

Rebecca Slone and Randall Burkhalter, Jr., of Cabot, were married on Oct. 17, 2009 at Apple Crest Inn at Gentry.

The bride is the daughter of Dana Skidgel of Gentry, and Buck and Debra Slone of Turlock, Calif. She is the granddaughter of William Woodral of Gentry, and Harold Slone, Sr., of Ceres, Calif. She graduated from Freedom High School in Turlock and is employed as a registered dental assistant in Little Rock.

The groom is the son of Brent and Carol Scott of Alexander City, Ala., and Randall Burkhalter, Sr., of Helfin, Ala. He is the grandson of Billy and Shirley Greene of Alexander City, and Lucille Burkhalter. He graduated from Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City and is a senior airman in the U.S. Air Force at Little Rock Air Force Base.

The maid of honor was Shannon Tedford and the best man was Chris Vicars. The bride’s father gave her away in marriage. Robert Tharp officiated at the wedding.

The couple will make their home in Cabot.
